9. Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla Radio

8. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Atrophy

7. Rise Against - To Them These Streets Belong

5. Audioslave - Cochise

4. Silverstein - Three Hours Back

3. Breaking Benjamin - Blow Me Away

2. Drowning Pool - Let The Bodies Hit The Floor!

Music Video Games

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I am quite the avid gamer, so of course musically inclined video games appeal to me. Four come to mind at the moment. Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Flash Flash Revolution, and Karaoke Revolution are are pretty awesome games that I’ve played enough to have an opinion on.

Guitar Hero is the latest of the four, the sequel recently coming out for PS2 and blowing me away. It’s pretty awesome to rock out to songs that I can’t play on the guitar, but can play okay on the controller for Guitar Hero. Soon, the Flying V is gonna come out as a controller choice, and that will ROCK.

Dance Dance Revolution is a must-mention. It’s been the staple for the past generation of music games. The coolest thing about it in my opinion is the influence that it’s had on so many other games, and also a little something called “freestyling”. Check out the video.

Flash Flash Revolution is DDR, for your fingers. I’m getting pretty good, and I like the fact that I can do it on my computer without dragging out a big pad or getting all sweaty after two songs.

Available right HERE.

Lastly is Karaoke Revolution, which I got to try on Friday night at my friend’s birthday party. It was quite hilarious, especially since it didn’t matter if you could sing or not, because everyone else was joining in and singing anyway. I did manage to account for myself quite well, even managing to beat out the birthday girl on “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.

And on that ‘note’ I’ll leave you with the song!

Finally, Streaming Music!

Friday, January 26th, 2007

So, I finally found an awesome way to stream music through my blog! Radio Blog Club allows me to stream popular music straight through my site! So to celebrate, I figured I’d put up a few songs.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down

Rise Against - Give It All

Rise Against - Prayer For A Refugee

American Idol: Season 6

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

American Idol

Why is America addicted to a singing talent show?

Firstly, because of the awesome lack of talent in the beginning. Speaking of which, New York’s lack thereof was hilarious. More on that later.

But then, later in the season, everyone starts listening. Everyone actually sees the hard work that these truly talented people put into the show. And that’s when America gets involved, physically and emotionally.

There will always be naysayers for the show. But this is a reality show that I can actually get behind and say that I enjoy it, because there is something good that comes out of it in the end. Most of the finalists get record deals that they deserve.

Back to the fun stuff though, tonight’s featured artist: Sara Goldberg. Wow. She was insanely bad, and admitted as much. She then proceeded to tell the judges off, because in her opinion, the next American Idol didn’t have to be able to sing.

Uhhh. Ahahahahaha. I laughed.

But anyway folks, stay tuned because more fun and games are yet to come. And how about showing a little more talent next time NBC? (This showing we saw 10 out of 35 contestants who made it through to Hollywood…)

Digital Music Planet - Taking What I Do to a Whole ‘Notha Level

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

I’ve got a goal. And that is to spread the love for bands that I think deserve it, and to get people hooked on new music that they haven’t heard before.

Well, apparently there are other sites that have a shared goal, and one in particular, when it was pointed out to me, actually stood out to me as one damn decent site!

Digital Music Planet

Digital Music Planet does everything that I do on a small scale and explodes it onto a big screen so that you can take in the whole picture.

Digital Music Planet (DMP) is committed to changing the way that people listen to music! So take a moment and check us out. We have searched the globe to find the hottest personal digital music products and music artists found anywhere in the world, so that you don’t have to! So register today, look around, have some fun, and let us know what you think. Make sure to tell your friends too!

Well, I’ve been poking around the site for about an hour now, and I keep coming across new features that I didn’t notice before. The only thing about the site that I didn’t like was a weird cut-off problem underneath the “Articles” Header, but that could have just been my browser acting up. So check it out, I’ll definitely be going back.

Rise Against Videos

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Rise Against is known for its controversial tunes and videos. These two in particular, “Prayer for the Refugee” and “Ready to Fall” speak strongly about topics that are hot today. You have to give them kudos for being willing to sing about more than sex, drugs, and women. Tired old topics don’t cut it with my tastes, I need the cutting edge.

Top 10 Songs To Get It On To.

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Oh, but these are some pretty awesome songs to get it on to. Not that I’ve ever gotten it on. Nor listened to any of these songs. *shifty eyes*

10. Animals by Nickelback. Don’t even try to deny it: you’ve seen yourself in the same ‘position’ as the lead singer before.

9. Inside of You by Hoobastank. Lesser known, but uh… the title is pretty self-explanatory.

8. Du Hast by Rammstein. As quoted by a friend: “It sounds like some sort of weird sex song!” Yes, yes it does.

7. Dreamweaver by Kansas. You know you want it!

6. American Woman as performed by Lenny Kravitz. Yeah, American women.

5.This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole. Or it might be a one night stand. Regardless, this song is some kind of wonderful.

4. Afternoon Delight as performed by Will Ferrell in Anchorman. Up for a little afternoon delight?

3. We Are The Champions by Queen. You know you’ve always wanted to. Or is that just me?

2. Scotty Doesn’t Know by Lustra. Apt particularly if you’re getting it on with someone that you shouldn’t be. Aheh. Not that you’d ever do something like that.

1. Let’s Get it On by Marvin Gaye. Was there ever any doubt?

The Vines Music Videos - “Gross Out” and “Anysound”

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

The Vines have some great movies. Both of these caught my eye, so I put them up. “Gross Out” is entirely black out / white out, while “Anysound” is claymation. How cool is that? I dig The Vines, especially their album “Winning Days”. Even though their sound isn’t what I’d typically associate with my tastes, they managed a huge success with “Winning Days” for me.

Incubus - Light Grenades

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Incubus - Light Grenades

I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked up Light Grenades the other day. Well. It certainly wasn’t at all like any of their music that I’d heard up until that point.

Light Grenades is a departure from their “semi-mainstream” sound that Incubus has maintained over their past ventures. The spectrum of sound on this album is incredible.

I’m a gamer, so the intro to the song “Light Grenades” sounded very familiar, straight out of Halo 2. The rest of the song though, was different. Very different. The vocals that they experiment with compliment the rest of the off-beat song with quite a bit of flair.

The single, “Anna Molly” is very well done, the light guitar/ heavy guitar alternation makes for an effect that creates a memorable single unlike any other.

Then there are other songs that make me go WTF? “Quicksand” is merely okay, and “A Kiss to Send Us Off” sounds too clash-esque.

Mellow songs like “Love Hurts” and “Oil and Water” are my favorites on the album, although the next confirmed single “Dig” is also very high up there.

Incubus has certainly created something unique and individual with “Light Grenades”. They definitely deserve the spot on the charts that they currently hold. However, I wouldn’t mind if they did settle on a certain sound, if just to know what to expect. Regardless, “Light Grenades” is worth a listen or two by everyone, because if you can’t find anything on the album that appeals to you, well you shouldn’t be listening to music.

We Shall Overcome - In Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr Day. Even nearly forty years after his death, Dr. King’s message of tolerance remains just as important and potent in today’s society.

Remembrance of this day couldn’t be as significant as it is without the music that epitomizes the Civil Rights Movement. Songs like this “We Shall Overcome” revive that spirit in all of us, and give us the slightest taste of that age when rights that we take for granted were non-existent.

Remember. And then maybe someday, everyone, everyone on the entire planet can say those words that Dr. King spoke four decades ago: “Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty we are free at last.”

Canon in D Arrangement

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Amazing video. Inspires me to try harder when I play guitar. This is by far one of the most amazing arrangements I’ve seen for guitar. From the awesome riffs high on the fretboard to the tapping arpeggios, from the change of key in the latter part of the song to the glances away from the guitar, this is truly an awesome music video.

The song is Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel, by the way.

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

Friday, January 12th, 2007

OK Go with their original sound, funky moves, and rocking choreography have put together quite a movie for their latest single. I absolutely love the whole ‘One-Take’ look and it’s rare when a one angle view can look as good as any other cinematography. I’ve liked OK Go for a long time, and loved both OK Go and Oh No. Anyway, here it is, the amazing “Here It Goes Again” video by OK Go.

The McDonalds Rap

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Odds are you’ve already seen this hilarious video on Youtube. This aspiring rapper throws down his order at McDonald’s- in freestyle. Everyone else doesn’t have anything on this dude. From the differing speeds to the ‘ruination’ of the rap towards the end, this video rocks.

And just a word to everyone trying to mimic this guy. Come on, be original. Seriously.
