The Impossible Quiz

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

The Impossible Quiz has as little to with music as possible, but seeing as how I spent a good hour today playing it, I’m gonna write about the little music that’s in it, dammit.

Firstly, to the man who made this quiz, may I convey the sentiments of the great majority who have taken this quiz: “GOD DAMN YOU, YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!”

Now, I’ll take a little time to talk about the music of the Impossible Quiz (up to the point which I have reached).

First up is the Rocky Theme, an inspiring background to really encourage you on your way. Second in the background comes… something that is rather catchy, yet indescribable. I kind of loathe it in a way. It sounds very Gorillaz-esque.

Within the quiz itself are several musically inclined questions, so here are some clues…

And for the record, I’ve only gotten to question 75 or so. I’m so sorry for having shown this to you.

Stepmania - True DDR for the fingers.

Monday, February 19th, 2007

My brother is obsessed with Stepmania. A little while ago, I told y’all about music related games that I knew about. Well, this, as compared with FFR, is truly DDR for the fingers.

While both FFR and Stepmania have their pros and cons, Stepmania stays truer to the central theme of DDR, utilizing a similar game engine, as well as a similar look that DDR fans will find rather homey. The coolest part about Stepmania is all of the fan made step-files, almost any song has a step-file for it on Stepmania. You can also get a USB Dance Pad and play Stepmanie just like DDR on your computer. And the best part is, it’s completely free.

Music Video Games

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I am quite the avid gamer, so of course musically inclined video games appeal to me. Four come to mind at the moment. Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Flash Flash Revolution, and Karaoke Revolution are are pretty awesome games that I’ve played enough to have an opinion on.

Guitar Hero is the latest of the four, the sequel recently coming out for PS2 and blowing me away. It’s pretty awesome to rock out to songs that I can’t play on the guitar, but can play okay on the controller for Guitar Hero. Soon, the Flying V is gonna come out as a controller choice, and that will ROCK.

Dance Dance Revolution is a must-mention. It’s been the staple for the past generation of music games. The coolest thing about it in my opinion is the influence that it’s had on so many other games, and also a little something called “freestyling”. Check out the video.

Flash Flash Revolution is DDR, for your fingers. I’m getting pretty good, and I like the fact that I can do it on my computer without dragging out a big pad or getting all sweaty after two songs.

Available right HERE.

Lastly is Karaoke Revolution, which I got to try on Friday night at my friend’s birthday party. It was quite hilarious, especially since it didn’t matter if you could sing or not, because everyone else was joining in and singing anyway. I did manage to account for myself quite well, even managing to beat out the birthday girl on “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.

And on that ‘note’ I’ll leave you with the song!

The Gorillaz: Rise of the Ogre

Rise of the Ogre

The Gorillaz are one of the most original groups ever to hit it big on an international level. I own two of their albums, “Demon Days” and their self-titled “Gorillaz”, both of which sold in absolutely ridiculous quantities across the globe.

Now, in an epic chronology undertaken by the band members themselves, they have dictated through their entire history and hinted at more to come in this wonderfully descriptive and illustrated book.

This books tells it all, from the origins of the band to Noodle’s apparent demise in one of their latest videos “El Manana” (Below).

Anyway, after having read through the entire book, which goes much better if you have the CD’s by the way, I’m very impressed. It flows with a style and flair very fitting for a band that made us fall for them with “Clint Eastwood” and gained our undying support with “Feel Good, Inc.”
